Squirtle! Use Bubblebeam!

I told you I'd be back, Nail Friends!

This mani took a LOT longer than I thought it would (though I don't know why I thought it'd be fast. I take forever when I'm doing nail art!)

So Sarah from Chalkboard Nails is holding a blog contest like I mentioned in my giveaway post a few hours ago. The rules are, and I copy and paste quote:
  • Only one entry per person, please.
  • You must do these designs on your own nails.
  • Your design must use a dotting tool of some kind.
  • You can use the brush that comes with your polish to aid in your design.
  • Stamping is discouraged but not prohibited. I really want this to be about the dotting tool and its possibilities!
  • You may not use acrylic paint for your design.
  • You may not use nail art brushes for your design.
  • Your design does not have to be a new design.
  • You must submit your designs through the Inlinkz tool at the end of this post between now and Monday, March 5th.
  • This contest is open internationally, excluding Italy (Llarowe does not ship there).

Now, I got into nails because I could do art on them, so art-based contests make me super excited! I thought about what I wanted to do for a couple days and finally I decided that you can never go wrong with Pokémon! And here's how it went!

(This is going to be pic-heavy. Just a head's up. If anyone can explain why I can't get jump cuts to work that'd be AWESOME!)

I started with a layer of Zoya Trixie(I know you can't see it, but it's there!) and then covered that with two layers of OPI Moon Over Mumbai. It's a suuuuper sheer light gray, but I really like it, even though it's streaky all over the place. (I found it layers well over Skull And Glossbones, I just had a limited supply of my polishes because I'm not at home.)

Another shot of the color!

Told you Trixie was in there! (I had to redo my middle nail. I over did it a bit)

Then, using China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint, For Audrey, Aqua Baby and Cult Nails Tied Up I started dotting. I tried to get a sideways isoceles triangle look.

DOTS!

Then....I added Squirtle to my thumb. A very stylized Squirtle. I used a big dotter to, well, make big dots in a circle to form his head. I used For Audrey for his turtle-skin. Then, using a small dotter I poked in the tail and his shell (Cult Nails Tulum). Had a brief panic when I realized I didn't have yellow for his tummy, but my boyfriend pointed out I could mix a lighter color with the nail polish I already had. Boy did I feel silly. So I mixed Tulum with Moon Over Mumbai and made that lighter brown. Re-Fresh Mint for the highlight, China Glaze Custom Kicks for the shadows and Suzi Loves Cowboys/Moon Over Mumbai for the eye and I had a Squirtle!

Add some Cult Nails Wicked Fast topcoat, and my pokémon battles are more real than ever!
Dots with topcoat!
 Squirtle! I choose you!

Squirtle! use BUBBLEBEAM (to scrub off that polish stuck to my cuticle...)

Everything I used. That Stratego lid gave its life for my nails!

Still with me! Haha excellent! I must reiterate, I'm having a GIVEAWAY! (CAPSLOCK) Super easy to enter and you could win seven bottles of nail polish all for free!

That's all until Sunday, Nail Friends (that's all, she says. That epically long post was "all." Sheesh.)
You can expect more posts like this once my lightbox is complete and I'm through recapping the last year. (My lightbox just needs one more light and it's set!

Until Next time!
Same nail polish place, same nail polish channel!

    1. Haha not creepy at all. At some point you'll catch me declaring my love of a person over a mani. ^_^ Thanks so much for the totally ego-boosting comment!

It's not too hard. Squirtle is very round. If you draw him out first to figure out how you want to lay him down, then putting him on the nail is just repeating steps you already did! I have no idea if that made sense haha. Sorry if it didn't!

    2. I understood it!!! After I do my robot mani this weekend ill have to try this one next its so awesome!! Maybe it wont be as horrible to recreate as I thought since dotting tools seem easier to work with than brushes :) thank you for the inspiration & I hope you win!! Also cant wait to see the other pokemons along the way!!

    1. Thank you! I've been playing pokemon since the very first pokemon and I LOVE water types. All of my love for Squirtle.

I'm contemplating doing press on nail sets at some point, so I may recreate this on those. Maybe. Stay tuned. ^_^

    1. Thank you so much! The next pokemon will be ninetails, but probably not until after I do the 31 day nail challenge. (or maybe during it!)
